Skanska provide construction management services for the new 106,486-SF, phased elementary school built adjacent to the existing school, which will support a student population of 680 students. Phase one included the construction of a new access roadway, sitework, temporary parking and play areas, and separation of the site for the construction of the new school while the existing school remained open. Work for phase two included construction of the new school, site utilities, access road and parking facilities. During phase three, the team demolished the existing 65,000-SF school and another 4,500-SF of modular classrooms, including removal of hazardous materials, constructed new playfields and completed site work. The new school includes administrative areas, nurse's station, classrooms, library, kitchen, cafeteria, gymnasium, art and music, special education, etc. The project incorporated sustainable elements in the design, such as rainwater harvesting systems, extensive recycling of building materials, daylighting, energy-efficient building systems and energy monitoring systems to provide students and staff with an enhanced environment while decreasing operating costs for the town. The energy monitoring system has an interface for students to learn about how buildings use energy. The building received LEED Silver certification.
