Skanska provided preconstruction and construction management services for the new 14-story, 616,087-SF state-of-the-art children’s hospital. The new hospital includes 255 beds and has dedicated units for pediatric intensive care, cardiovascular intensive care and neonatal intensive care. All patient rooms are private and designed to accommodate two parents.

The facility features many play areas, a miniature movie theatre and a large parent resource center with access to learning materials, the Internet and patient educators. All diagnostic and treatment services are located in the new building, including a 14-room surgical suite, a two-room cardiac catheterization laboratory, an interventional radiology suite and an endoscopy suite. The emergency department was enlarged to handle expected patient volumes beyond 2014. Built to treat 35,000 patients a year, the Emergency Department currently treats more than 70,000.

Additionally, this project included a helipad and a central energy plant to support the campus. Having recycled over 76 percent of construction waste and diverted over 5,500 tons of waste from the landfill, this project achieved LEED Silver Certification.
